An open letter to all the voters of Wallingford – Democrat, Republican, Other and Unaffiliated

Let’s be mindful of the fact that serving the public is in itself a daunting task; the hours are long and the work is generally unrewarding (except for personal satisfaction in most cases) but each of us does it for our own reasons.

The desire to run for public office is expensive in both real money and personal time.

At the end of the day WE, those of us that are running and / or presently serving, are the ones that should be in focus.

If you don’t like our policies and our plans then come take issue with them – come to a public meeting, raise us on the phone, or send us a letter or an email and bring up your comments and concerns.

This morning the sign below was vandalized by someone that acted on a “crime of opportunity”. I am not excusing it but that’s what it was - “hey look a sign” – car jumps the curb and takes out the sign. With the number of signs and locations that I have and with them being up for the past seven weeks I am honestly surprised I got this far without incident.

damage one

The Police were called but there is little they can actually follow up on and the most one could hope for is some front end damage to the car that hit it. The most unfortunate part of this damage is the impact to the unsuspecting homeowner for doing nothing more than supporting their candidate.

This one below is the one that bothers me actually. It bothers me because it was NOT a "crime" of opportunity but rather a targeted, premeditated and calculated effort which in my book makes it FAR worse.

damage Mom one

Someone took the time to plan their trespass on my mother’s property specifically, remove the sign and intentionally put it in front of her car at the car port – blocking her in.

Neither situation is acceptable but this is 100 times worse than the prior.

I have so many different feelings right now and the writing helped defer some of them but I am going to make three final comments and then go outside in the yard to play with my kids:

1) Unlike how I personally and my supporters were unjustly accused of putting inflammatory paper posters up of the Mayor a couple of months back, I know that these acts were independently executed and not the orchestrated effort of anyone connected directly to any of the campaigns.

2) I do not condone any actions of this nature and will not – proactively or reactively, on me or on my opponents – there is no place for it. I do not expect escalation or retaliation and I will deal with both the same way; I will inform the police and if I catch it in the act I will take immediate actions.

3) I am running for office - I am fair play; my mother, my wife and my kids are neither – keep them clear of it.

I’m out – see you Monday morning from the train.

The Campaign is looking for locations for signs; if you have a location please let us know.

We’ve crossed Labor Day so it’s time to start peppering the campaign signs out.

The campaign is looking for additional lawns for signs – if you’re willing to lend us your real estate for signage please drop me an email at Jason@Zandri.net or send me a private message on Facebook.

We will be out over the next few days putting them up (and I am sure we’ll be out during the entire campaign replacing them too) so let us know and in most cases my father or I will swing by and get them up.

Thanks for the support!

Campaign Lawn Signs are now available

Quick reminders – lawn signs for the campaign are now available; anyone that is interested in one please drop me a note at Jason@Zandri.net with your address and we’ll swing by and get them for your property.

Those of you that have already grabbed yours from us prior or at the Democrat Town Committee meetings, please remember that the local rule for putting them up is AFTER Labor Day weekend (which is this weekend). They can go up TUESDAY and beyond.

If you’ve requested them from me prior we will be out over the next week to install them all; if we don’t have yours up by next Saturday please drop us a reminder email.

If anyone has any questions please be sure to let me know.

Thanks for the support.

Campaign hires What's Next Connecticut Campaign and Political Consulting

Jason Zandri for Mayor Committee announces the hiring of What's Next Connecticut Campaign and Political Consulting.

Jason Paul has been involved in Democratic politics since knocking on doors for Congressman Sam Gejdenson in 2000. He was national high school liaison for Young Democrats of America and President of the Brandeis Democrats. Since graduating from college in 2009 he has worked at the municipal, congressional and statewide levels. Most recently he managed the upset campaign of State Representative David Alexander in Enfield’s 58th district. He is also known as an op-ed writer for CT News Junkie.

Jim Sargent has been active in Democratic campaigns since he was a high school student volunteering for then-State Representative Chris Murphy. In the years since, he has played a wide variety of roles on municipal, state legislative, and statewide campaigns, including managing the database for Governor Dannel Malloy‘s 2006 campaign and leading the field operations for Hartford’s City Council President Shawn Wooden. Jim believes that campaigns are won when hard work meets useful data and creative messaging, and that is what guides his work with What’s Next. Off the campaign trail, Jim spends his time agonizing over Seattle Mariners baseball, daydreaming about Hartford Whalers hockey, and wondering how the world would be different if Michael Dukakis had been elected President.

Matt Zagaja is an attorney who has been knocking doors for campaigns since high school. As a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute he founded the WPI College Democrats. During his senior year of college he was elected President of the College Democrats of Massachusetts and named a Most Valuable Player by the College Democrats of America for his work in growing the organization. In addition to working for various Connecticut campaigns, he interned for the United States House of Representatives and Connecticut’s State Elections Enforcement Commission. He resides in Wethersfield where he is a member of the Wethersfield Democratic Town Committee.

Wrap up from the first fundraiser

The first formal fundraiser of the campaign was a complete success with over 200 tickets sold and about 150 people in attendance despite the threat of foul weather.

2013-03-06_19-07-13_345

Attorney General George Jepsen was in attendance and kicked off a short support speech for the attendees at Gouveia Vineyards this evening.

Former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz was also on hand to speak and offer her support to the campaign.

We know the weather kept some additional folks that wanted to come at home but we will be having additional events in the summer after the Fireworks are fully fundraised for the 2013 celebration.

We’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, those of you interested in mailing in a donation can do so by making your donation and sending it to:

”Jason Zandri for Mayor Committee”
c/o 23 Cardinal Drive
Wallingford CT 06492

Thanks again to everyone that donated to date and who were able to come tonight and offer additional support of both time and money.

I’m looking forward to working with you on the campaign over the next few months on the road to November.

Campaign Meeting – scheduled for Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 7:30PM

Welcome to 2013 everyone. We hope you had a great holiday and New Year’s.

We will be having a planning meeting to kick off the 2013 Mayoral campaign and to extend the invitation publicly to anyone that wants to sit in to listen or offer their input.

It will be held on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 7:30PM at the Law Offices of Vincent Avallone,130 North Main Street in Wallingford.

The plan for this meeting is to discuss topics for Wallingford – the things on peoples’ minds that they want to see for Wallingford in the future. There are some things we do well and we expect to hear “let’s keep doing them” as much as we expect to hear “we should do this – we don’t currently” as well as “we could improve upon this process.”

The only way we can set forth to see these things through for the people is to hear from them how they are important and to put together the plan to execute and see them through.

Additionally we will want to discuss the upcoming fundraiser for the campaign – planned for Wednesday March 6, 2013 at 6:30PM at Gouveia Vineyards 1339 Whirlwind Hill Rd, Wallingford; we will need volunteers for the event for items such as planning the event as well as selling tickets.

If at anytime you’d like to get a hold of me for additional information or follow email is generally best; feel free to drop me a note at
Jason@Zandri.net (Please put in a meaningful subject so the spam filter doesn’t swallow it up “Wallingford - [TOPIC]” is an offered suggestion).

Once again – this meeting is open to one and all and we hope to see you there.

“MOVING WALLINGFORD FORWARD”

So it has been suggested there should be a theme or focus for the campaign so after some input from others and some consideration we’ve come up with “MOVING WALLINGFORD FORWARD”

Nothing else seemed to fit as well.

We are not looking to change everything wholesale; for the point of the matter, there are a lot of things Wallingford already does pretty well.

What needs to happen with those things we already do well is to see if we can do them any better. After the assessment, if there is no way to do those things any better, more efficiently, or to have an even greater positive impact to Wallingford then we leave well enough alone and keep executing on those things in that manner.

With the situations where there are improvements to be had, efficiencies to make, process changes to implement and so forth we will do so.

No matter how good or even great you are there is always room for improvement to become better and there is no reason why Wallingford couldn’t stretch and grow and become more than it is today in positive ways.

That’s the goal – an even better Wallingford and we get there moving her forward.
